Happy New Year–Be an Informed Citizen!!

Welcome back to PCCS students and teachers. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and we wish you further success the rest of the year.

There are two major pieces of legislation that will be debated soon in Lansing. One concerns the Education Achievement Authority, which will create a statewide school district run by the State with no local control of the schools. This new district could become the largest in the state and it’s use of unproven methods has caused great controversy. School district superintendents throughout the state have been speaking out against this legislation because it is so crucial and will have long-lasting effects on all of our children if passed.

The other legislation will change how schools are funded and may have a profound affect on how PCCS receives the resources necessary to provide the excellent education we are accustomed to. The author of this plan, Richard McLlellan, who also previously wrote legislation to create a voucher system for our schools that was rejected by Michigan voters, said “That’s accurate” when asked if the plan was to destroy public education as we know it. If this plan is passed everyone agrees it will fundamentally change how our state, and PCCS, will do business.

With such important legislation pending, it is imperative that all parents in the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools become familiar with these plans and educate themselves on their possible repercussions for PCCS and public education throughout the State of Michigan. Whether you agree with the plans or not, we urge all parents to become informed citizens in order to understand what the future holds. Please also let other parents know what is happening.
